Thawing echoes the dynamic interplay between Renaissance chiaroscuro’s  characteristics and highly saturated colors. This artwork depicts a loose and painterly composition of flowers in vibrant blue hues. The edges of the floral petals blend with the background, giving the impression of emerging from it. I applied a rough bark-like texture to intensify the contrast, which brings interesting visual interplay with the smooth glazing layers. This contrasting dynamic of light and dark, rough "old" and "new" smooth textures helps emphasize the purity of the blue hues and the delicate tenderness and freshness of the flowers.
